SEA SALT PRODUCTION METHOD

Salt consists approximately 3.5% of the world's oceans. Shallow puddles are transformed into salt crystals with effects of sun and wind, and salt is produced naturally. When sea salt is produced industrially, it is placed in seawater condensation ponds in order to benefit from sun and wind more efficiently.

Sea salt production is carried out in low rainy areas in order to realize the evaporation process in a healthy way. For this reason, sea salt is produced in dry climates such as Mediterranean and Australia climates. Especially in these regions, we are establishing turnkey sea salt production lines for our customers.

SOLAR EVAPORATION METHOD

Solar evaporation is the oldest method in salt production. It is preferred in hot climates where evaporation rate exceeds annual precipitation rate and ideally in regions where there is constant wind. Concentrated solution precipitates salt collected by mechanical harvesting machines. Usually, two types of pools are used. The first is the pond where brine from the ocean or salt lake is concentrated, and the second is crystallization pools where salt is actually produced. With this method, salt purity is close to 100%. Below are stages of applying solar evaporation method:

  • Salt in brine or salt lake is exposed to the evaporator effect of wind and sun.
  • Brine is filled into ponds and salt is expected to crystallize to point of saturation.
  • Salt deposit is harvested once a year when it reaches a certain thickness.
  • Crystallization occurs in these ponds, and raw salt is subjected to various processes including washing, drying, and sieving if necessary.

SALT DRYING MACHINE

Washed salt must be dried before proceeding to other processes. This drying process can be carried out in several steps according to the properties of salt. In general, salt dewatered by a centrifuge machine is quickly dried in a fluid bed dryer.
