ROCK SALT PRODUCTION METHODS

Rock salt is found in rocky sub-layers of the earth's surface and is the result of long-established old underground waterways. Rock salt can be taken out by deep shaft mining or vacuum mining. Rock salts contain many minerals and impurities. Different chemical methods are applied to remove these substances from salt.

SHAFT MINING

Shaft mining includes 2 different rock salt extraction method to be cut and blast method and continuous mining method. In the cut-blast method, salt is procured through explosives placed in boreholes. In the continuous mining process, salt is obtained by the continuous miner machine, which proceeds planar underground.

SOLUTION MINING METHOD (VACUUM EVAPORATION)

In this process, water is sent to the salt field under pressure through a borehole in the underground salt layer. Salt and water mix underground. Saturated crude salt water is drawn up with the pump. Before evaporation, a purification process is carried out in which calcium, magnesium, and other impurities are removed. Salt is then crystallized in vacuum pans to remove minerals from brine. Salt is then dried and purified.
